I’m asking the same question through literature: how can something be meaningful and serious without being a cliché of seriousness? She typed the words come back to me in white font, massaged the text down to its tiniest possible size, and implanted it, subliminally, in the gleam of the Grinch’s pupil.

What I hope is that the book is taken seriously, or semi seriously, in its celebration of joy and humor and gossip.I couldn’t really bring myself to care about the Dykette Subjectivity nor the brooklyn lesbian Scene presented here.

For being so graphic and explicit with the "livestream" scene, the rest of the encounters were just meh and felt very wrong/uncomfortable to be "witnessing". Yet at the same time, some people are just ~more~ or less gay than others, and their outsiderness exists in a different spectrum. The changes in pronouns, the controversy that the characters are going through online (" how could she be a TERF when Twitter alleged she wasn't even a feminist? similar to many hetero books, dykette is a story about what white people get up to when the mundanity of life is just too much to bare, except it’s so much better because we have hot butches, one sided dyke beef and a femme that is a chronic attention seeker, over-thinker and desperate to tell you all about how much she wants to fuck and take care of butches. stars because I plowed through more than half in an evening just to find out what the hell was even happening.

and then there’s the more broad or political use of the term, which has been something I’ve been interested in for a while, and have been learning more about in the past few years. Dykette takes on desire, debauchery, and destruction through a distinctly queer—and propulsively entertaining—lens. It’s common for queer people to experience a second, extended adolescence, having been denied an authentic queer youth or young adulthood. In reality this book assumes that you already has a good understanding of the butch/femme dynamics and a lesbian scene and immediately dives into details that for a beginner LGBTQIA+ reader like me were definitely over my head.

A hilarious, astute, and captivating tour of a young femme’s interior life over the course of one long weekend upstate. A fascinating look at queer couples and how things like gender, sexuality, age, and even horniness can affect everything about a relationship. I read in many reviews that this is a queer book written for queer people, so I was excited to pick it up. By the end of the book, I felt a few plot points hadn't led anywhere (l kept waiting for Miranda's "bad" patient to make an appearance somehow) but didn't feel that this detracted from the text overall. the vision of lesbianism presented here is rigid, unempathetic, and rather unfun (side note: davis has a pointed section about people who lob Boring accusations, but i’m sorry, I had to kind of skim over much of this book.We sense danger ahead in the form of rage, want, and need, bubbling up through the constant display of startling aggression. The performance art in this book is bold and legitimately shocking, often in this kind of novel a big art setpiece cannot really deliver what it needs to the plot but oh this one does. Straight people are going to be downright confused by a lot of this book and queer people are probably going to fight about it.
