With this in mind, I started my first layout experiments with the ground floor, since the entrance hall, Great Hall, and marble staircase are among the most frequently (and consistently) described areas of the castle. The gold and green chunks on the other side could have been combined with each other and/or the blue chunk, but separating them improves sculpting performance. The walkway along the east side of the quad exterior appears to have a single level, and the elevation is marked as (I believe) 220′. For fellow Blender users – I did most of my rough sculpting with the wonderful Clay Strips brush, and then I adjusted the falloff of the Scrape brush to dig all the grooves into the bark.

For a long while I had this idea that it would be cool to create a model, illustrations, and/or floor plans for the book version of Hogwarts, but I wanted to make sure I had all the information first.Given the description of how to get there from the greenhouses, it is clear that this is simply an inconsistency. Niall: In this case "including the essential part" should be copy here all maps from the remote site: I do not think this is acceptable.

That’s all being put on hold for now, though – I just discovered more reference photos that are helping me fill in areas that were otherwise difficult to reconstruct. All drawings, concept sketches, and designs related to the art and sets that appear in the 8 Harry Potter films will be unveiled for the first time. With the finalization of my interpretation of Rowling’s footprint, I began looking through the books to find the information I would need. But regardless, here I’ve tried to align them together, applying the low-res color data to the high-res scan. FILMMAKING SECRETS: Learn how Hogwarts and other locations in the wizarding world went from sketch to screen. In any case, my model omits the door on the other tower and attempts to include as much detail on the neighboring walls as can be divined from the available reference. That’s the small connection between the Great Hall/Chamber of Reception structure and the marble staircase tower; it changed to a different design after Azkaban. I was very surprised to discover last summer that during my trip to Europe, I could tell the difference between 10th and 15th century cathedral windows at a glance! Craig didn’t like the vertical extensions, because they were totally redone for the second film in a style that slightly foreshadowed the more Gothic look that would take over in the third film.
