Like it or not, this will probably continue as long as there are different markets with big wealth disparities. Use it along with a good book which covers the analysis of circuits and it should cover most of the needs of any practicing engineer.

He is the author of some 200 scientific articles and reports, has consulted widely for industry and government, and is the designer of numerous electronic and photographic instruments. I started with the second edition and it was very well worn when I purchased a copy of the third, an upgrade I would recommend to anyone still on the fence. It is loaded with real life devilish down to details advice that one could try to dig days on end from other sources. In addition to covering more advanced materials relevant to its companion, The x-Chapters also includes extensive treatment of many topics in electronics that are particularly novel, important, or just exotic and intriguing. It can be described as a cross between a textbook and reference manual, though without the chapter-end questions and exercises which are often found in textbooks. The effected area was only about 10mm x 10mm at 2 corners, and using a scalpel, i was able to carefully cut away the tiny amount of surplus paper - the 'surgery' is barely noticeable. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I suspect that just as importantly though, the time needed to publish these chapters would have allowed the rest of the information updated in AoE3 to stagnate for 4 years. Any fan of the book will certainly want to consider obtaining the latest release, The Art of Electronics: The x-Chapters, which follows the previous third edition of AoE from 2015. Winfield Hill has held positions at numerous organisations, including Harvard University's Electronic Design Center and Sea Data Corporation. Faced with “make one India can afford” or “leave the entire market to the pirates” for a big-name title, it’s usually an obvious choice for the publishers. In fact, each chapter of the new book begins with a repetition of the end-of-chapter review from the corresponding part of AoE3.Delivered in folksy Horowitz and Hill style, it is rich with the kind of nitty-gritty information that's invaluable to circuit designers and manufacturers, much of which is absent (or difficult to find) elsewhere.

For someone closer to beginner like me what is that book that looks like it’s printed on graph paper, Electronics Notebook or something? On the other hand, there is something to be said for swinging for the fences, and if you get through this, you will have a pretty good start on the basics. Horowitz and Sanni have a well-designed reputation for putting out a well-written easy read, which in the electronic engineering field is no small feat.

If you are a non-technical person trying to learn from scratch, this will be a tough textbook, but it is do-able with a little dedication. I bought the AoE3 when it was released, and managed to complete the set last year when I located a near-mint hard-cover 1st Edition.
