In the heart of every bottle of Cihuatán Indigo lies the Sleeping Woman, Mayan goddess and guardian of the Cihuatán valley. It was a thirst for wonder that inspired the ancient Maya to study the stars, to travel to faraway places and to create unimaginable things. The rum is analysed for tannic content, acidity and esterification for quality control to ensure a premium rum. This choice to highlight this culture comes from the fact that it is intimately linked to the country of origin of this rum: El Salvador.This Rum Cihuatan Indigo comes directly from its inspirations from Maya culture, indigo blue is a color frequently found on frescoes of Mayan temples. The entire production chain from sugarcane seeding to distilling, to ageing to bottling is controlled.

Drawing inspiration from El Salvador’s Mayan heritage, who were insatiably curious, the distillery has married traditional rum crafting methods with an innovative forward thinking philosophy. Legend has it that the Sleeping Woman,guardian goddess of the Cihuatán valley, would intercede on behalf of the people of Cihuatán so that Tlaloc would make the valley bloom. The only distillery in the country, it has mastered the manufacturing of its rum which it produces from local raw materials which express all the richness and complexity of the landscape.

Cihuatán is a sacred land that still hides undiscovered pyramids and secrets of the Mayan civilisation - inspired by the legacy of the ancestors, this rum was created. The name “Indigo” was inspired by the colour blue, which was crafted by the ancient Maya using the Indigo flower (añil). The nose of this classical Don Papa is very fruity, dominated by notes of mandarin orange, complemented by apricot, raspberry and green banana.

Cihuatán Indigo is an 8-year-old rum, produced in El Salvador by the Licorera Cihuatán distillery, with an ABV of 40%. Sustained bright yellow gold color, small frank nose with a little white chocolate, cocoa, smoky wood tip, good balance on a fairly full-bodied rum, sweetness but lack of consistency, frank character but little marked, frank product, straight but without much peculiarity or character. With a patient parent company the distillery has enjoyed the luxury of time to focus on aged rums, to be enjoyed neat or mixed in your favorite cocktail. Indigo’, inspired by the colour blue crafted by the ancient Maya using the Indigo Flower (anil) and also the colour of Tlaloc the Mayan God of rain. This is a very classy 8 Year Old column distilled rum from a relatively new player in the rum game, Ron Cihuatan. Further indulgent hazelnut cappuccino with smooth vanilla, dark chocolate, butterscotch and creamy dulce de leche. The beautiful indigo blue that adorns the bottle and gift box of this bottling is considered the sacred colour of this deity.
